Countryball games you can play free online
Flags with feelings, now playable. Our guide to countryball games, and where to play one right now.
What is a countryball game?
A countryball game is any game whose characters are countryballs: countries drawn as round balls, painted with their flags, with two white eyes and a lot of attitude. You know who France is before it says a word, and that is the magic. A flag is a costume, a personality and a joke all at once.
The humour comes from geography. Countryball games poke fun at what countries are famous for: food, sports, landmarks, weather and national habits. Canada apologises. The UK queues. Italy brings pizza to every argument. Good countryball games turn those quirks into gameplay, so the jokes are not just painted on, they are how the game plays.

Countryball Defenders
Our first game, and our favourite one (we may be biased). A cute countryball tower defense: balls from all 205 countries hop down your lawn, and your squad of countryballs bonks them back. Every country has its own stage, its own locals, its own champion and its own jokes, and every country you beat joins your squad.
Kinds of countryball games
Countryballs fit almost any genre, because a round ball with a flag is easy to read on a small screen and easy to animate. These are the kinds you will run into most:
Tower defense
Defend a base from waves of balls. Each country’s weapon becomes a tower. This is what countryball tower defense looks like.
Strategy and map games
Grow a country across a world map, make allies, take land. Countryballs make the diplomacy funnier.
Platformers and runners
One ball, a lot of jumping. Balls roll, bounce and squash, which suits platforming nicely.
Physics and puzzle games
Stack, roll and bump balls into place. Round balls, round problems.
Idle and clicker games
Tap to grow a nation while it grows itself. Good for short breaks.
Flag and geography quizzes
Countryballs make flags stick in your memory: it is hard to forget a flag with eyes.
What makes a good countryball game?
We play a lot of them, and we made one. Here is our checklist, and how Countryball Defenders tries to meet it:
- Flags you can recognise. The ball is the flag, so it has to be right. All 205 of our balls are drawn from their real flags.
- Countries that act like themselves. Our Canada’s attack is Sorry Syrup. The UK’s locals queue politely at your wall. France’s protesters use their signs as shields.
- Kind humour. Jokes about food, sports, landmarks and famous quirks. No war, no religion, no real people. Every ball is loved.
- Made for phones. Big buttons, short sessions, one thumb. No download.
- Fair free to play. You can finish our whole tour without paying, and there are no ads.
- Something new every country. In our game each country brings its own scene, its own music, new local traits and a champion with its own tricks, so stage 205 does not feel like stage 1.
How to play countryball games online for free

You need to be online to play, because our server double-checks every battle. That is what keeps the ranks fair.
A word for parents
Countryball Defenders is made for players aged 13 and up. It shows no ads. Gem packs are optional and sold through our payment partner Xsolla; players under 18 should ask a parent first. The chat (Global, plus one channel for each language) has filters, moderators and a report button, and the humour stays gentle: it pokes fun at food and famous habits, never at people. Our privacy policy explains, in plain words, what the game keeps and why.
More countryball games are coming
Countryballs is built to hold a whole shelf of countryball games. Countryball Defenders is the first; the next ones are being cooked up now, and each will be free in your browser too. Until then, there are 410 stages to clear, and a new Solar Trial world waits every day.
Questions about countryball games
What is the best free countryball game?
We are biased, but we made Countryball Defenders to be exactly that: a free countryball tower defense with 205 balls, one for every country, 410 stages and a comic story, playable in any browser with no ads.
Can I play countryball games on my phone?
Yes. Countryball Defenders was made for phones first: it runs in Safari or Chrome on iPhone and Android, and you can add it to your home screen for full screen.
Do countryball games need a download?
Not ours. Everything on Countryballs runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update.
Are countryball games the same as Polandball games?
Yes, the names are used for the same thing. Polandball is the meme that started it, in 2009; countryballs is the wider name. Read more on our Polandball games page.
Is it countryball or country ball?
Both mean the same thing: a country drawn as a ball in its flag’s colours. Fans usually write countryball as one word, so a country ball game is just a countryball game spelled the other way.
Are countryball games OK for kids?
Countryball Defenders is made for players 13 and older. It has no ads, its jokes stay gentle, and gem packs are optional; players under 18 should ask a parent before buying anything.
